Carrie

In ‘On Writing’ by Stephen King, I was moved how he went from rags to riches through his love for writing. Carrie was his first novel that become popular among the masses. Before it was released, King was struggling to pay for his family. In this books, he tells the story behind Carrie and his first taste of success. This aroused my interest and I picked a paperback of Carrie laying at home which I had bought a year ago.

Carrie is the story of a girl born to fanatically religious parents. Her childhood is filled with strange incidents which are unimaginable for normal straight-mind people. In retrospect, neighbors of them recall strange stories from Carrie’s house. One story, the most notorious, is about raining stones on their house. Carrie’s mother raised her alone after her father died in an accident and made a mess of what was once a beautiful, innocent child.

Carrie was never liked at school in fact she was the laughing stock and scapegoat during her all years at school. She was ridiculed by all the kids and felt deserted and unwanted. After an awfully embarrassing incident she discovered that she has teletonic powers. Which means she can move objects just by thinking about them.

Stephen King is one of the most sold writers of Horror genre and many movies are made on his books. He burst into scene with Carrie in 1974 and is churning out novels since then at a pretty fast pace. Carrie is my first novel by King and I can see why he is a best seller author because it’s hard to put down.
